Get ready to roll the dice once again. Sony is returning to its hit adventure franchise with Jumanji: Open World, the next chapter in the modern series that transformed the classic board game into a thrilling video game universe. The film will be the fourth Jumanji movie overall and the third installment in the rebooted series that began with the massive box office hit Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
The previous two films, released in 2017 and 2019, earned more than $1.7 billion worldwide, proving audiences still have a huge appetite for jungle adventures packed with action, comedy and fantasy. Director Jake Kasdan returns to the franchise, once again working from a screenplay co-written with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The producing team includes Kasdan, Matt Tolmach, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.
Like its predecessors, Jumanji: Open World is expected to reunite the familiar gang of unlikely heroes who become trapped inside a dangerous game where every level presents a new challenge. While plot details remain under wraps, fans can expect more outrageous creatures, inventive action sequences and the humor that made the reboot such a global success.
Sony has also shifted the film’s release from December 11 to the Christmas holiday, setting up a major holiday box office battle. The move places Jumanji: Open World just one week after the releases of Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday, creating one of the biggest blockbuster showdowns of 2026.
