Adam Driver and Miles Teller in Paper Tiger

Neon has unveiled the trailer for Paper Tiger, the new crime drama from acclaimed filmmaker James Gray, and the first footage suggests a tense family thriller with the Russian mafia lurking around every corner.

The film stars Adam Driver, Miles Teller and Scarlett Johansson and is set in 1986 Queens, New York. Driver plays Gary, an ex-cop who pulls his engineer brother Isaac, played by Teller, into a scheme that initially looks like a shortcut to the American Dream. Naturally, things do not go according to plan.

Their seemingly perfect opportunity quickly drags the brothers into the dangerous world of the Russian mafia, putting their money, freedom and family in serious danger. As pressure mounts, the bond between the brothers begins to crack, forcing them to decide just how much they are willing to sacrifice to survive.

Johansson plays Isaac’s wife, adding another layer of personal conflict as the criminal operation threatens to tear the family apart.

Gray, whose previous films include The Lost City of Z, Ad Astra and We Own the Night, both wrote and directed Paper Tiger. The movie had its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival and will next open the New York Film Festival in September.

Neon is positioning the film for awards-season attention, with a limited theatrical release scheduled for November 13. With this cast and Gray behind the camera, Paper Tiger could be one of the more interesting crime dramas arriving this fall.
