Nearly a decade after Blade Runner 2049 expanded Ridley Scott’s iconic sci-fi universe, the franchise is returning with a brand-new chapter. Prime Video has unveiled the first trailer for a limited series set years after the events of both previous films, and it looks every bit as atmospheric, mysterious, and visually stunning as fans hoped.
Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh leads the cast as Olwen, a replicant approaching the end of her lifespan. She is joined by Euphoria star Hunter Schafer as Cora, a young human fleeing relentless Blade Runners. The trailer reveals the unlikely pair forming an alliance as tensions between humans and replicants reach a breaking point. “The old world forever fights to come back,” Olwen declares. “Humans want what was taken from them. But it’s our time now.”
The series also stars Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben, while recurring cast members include Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, and Matthew Needham. Behind the camera, Shining Girls creator Silka Luisa serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Ridley Scott returning as executive producer to help guide the franchise he launched in 1982. Jonathan van Tulleken directs the opening two episodes.
Filmed primarily at Prague’s legendary Barrandov Studios, with additional production in Barcelona, Blade Runner 2099 appears to retain the franchise’s signature blend of breathtaking visuals, philosophical storytelling, and noir-inspired atmosphere.
The first trailer hints at another thought-provoking exploration of identity, humanity, and survival while introducing a fresh conflict that could reshape the future of this dystopian world. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to return to the neon-lit streets of the future when Blade Runner 2099 premieres exclusively on Prime Video on 25 November.
