Alexander Nevsky returns as Ivan Turchin in The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo, now filming in California
New action western The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo is currently in production in California. The film stars Alexander Nevsky, who reprises his role as Ivan Turchin, the mysterious gunslinger-turned-sheriff, in the next installment of the Rio Bravo saga, following Gunfight at Rio Bravo and Taken from Rio Bravo.
Nevsky, who previously directed the action thriller Black Rose, starring himself and Kristanna Loken, returns to the director’s chair for The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo, based on a screenplay by Craig Hamann.
The western centers on a reluctant sheriff (Nevsky) who is forced to take on a ruthless outlaw gang holding a small town hostage. Lorenzo Lamas, Nick Baillie, Olivier Gruner, James Chalk and Tatiana Neva round out the principal cast.
The film is being produced by Nevsky for Hollywood Storm and Baillie for Bishop Road Productions. Stefan Colson, Sam Wilkerson and Corey Brown of BoatShoes Entertainment serve as executive producers.
“The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo brings the trilogy to an epic conclusion with bigger action sequences and higher stakes for our hero,” said Nevsky.
Prestige International Pictures, a Los Angeles-based film sales, financing and production company, will represent The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM). A worldwide release is scheduled for 2027.
From the author: Rio Bravo is billed as the first modern western universe, created by Nevsky. The franchise began in 2023 with Gunfight at Rio Bravo, which set up the world of the series and brought the classic western into a modern setting.
Taken from Rio Bravo expanded the universe in 2024 with Taken from Rio Bravo, followed in 2025 by Gold of Rio Bravo: Sheriff Kelly’s Story, the first chapter to put one of the franchise’s characters at the center.
Three films in three years show Nevsky building a connected world rather than a one-off, and the series now has a recurring setting and a growing cast of characters.
