Narnia The Magicians Nephew

Narnia returns in The Magician’s Nephew

Greta Gerwig is bringing audiences back to the magical world of Narnia with The Magician’s Nephew, a new fantasy adventure based on C. S. Lewis’ beloved novel. The Academy Award-nominated filmmaker will explore the origins of the legendary fantasy realm in a big-screen adaptation that promises to introduce a new generation to one of literature’s most enduring worlds.

The story follows 12-year-old Digory Kirke and his friend Polly Plummer, who discover a way to travel between worlds using a mysterious ring. Their journey leads them into the creation of Narnia itself, revealing the beginnings of a magical land that would later become home to unforgettable adventures, mythical creatures, and epic battles between good and evil.

Gerwig’s adaptation makes a notable change to the source material’s timeline. While Lewis’ novel begins in 1900, the film shifts the setting to the 1950s. That decision could have implications for future installments, particularly if Netflix continues adapting the series chronologically. The next major story, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, famously begins during World War II, when the Pevensie children are evacuated from London during the Blitz and stumble into Narnia.

The Magician’s Nephew will arrive in theaters on February 12 before streaming on Netflix beginning April 2. With Gerwig at the helm, the film offers a fresh entry point into the origins of C. S. Lewis’ fantasy universe.
