Fans of classic martial arts tournament movies have a new reason to celebrate. A brand-new retro-inspired action film is stepping into the ring this fall, combining old-school fight choreography, legendary martial arts stars, and a familiar underdog story that pays tribute to the golden era of 1980s martial arts cinema.
The film stars German martial artist Mathis Landwehr as Joe, a fighter who has just been released from prison after serving four years for a crime he didn’t commit. Instead of finding peace, Joe discovers that his young son is battling a life-threatening brain tumor that requires expensive surgery. Desperate to save his child, he enters a brutal no-holds-barred tournament offering a $100,000 prize. Trained by Grandmaster Wu, Joe must overcome some of the world’s toughest fighters—while realizing that not everyone inside the ring is playing by the rules.
Produced by the team behind The Last Kumite, the movie also features martial arts legends Kurt McKinney (No Retreat, No Surrender), Gary Daniels, Keith Cooke, and MMA star Brice Akuesson. Fight choreography comes from Mike Möller, while Stan Bush, whose songs became synonymous with Bloodsport, performs the original theme, Heart of a Lion.
The film arrives on digital, Blu-ray, DVD, and limited collector’s editions in Germany on September 10, promising a nostalgic treat for martial arts movie fans.
