Marvel Studios has finally pulled back the curtain on VisionQuest, giving fans their first look at the series that will complete the trilogy launched by WandaVision. The trailer, unveiled at D23, finds Paul Bettany’s Vision still struggling to understand what he has become after escaping Westview.
This time, Vision is hiding from those who want to weaponize him, while searching for a new purpose. His attempt to understand his own programming brings him into contact with several artificial intelligence personalities, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S. and, most intriguingly, Ultron.
Yes, James Spader is back as the voice of Ultron, although the trailer gives the villain a surprisingly human appearance. The footage also introduces Thomas Shepard, a mysterious young boy who may somehow be connected to Vision as his son or reincarnation.
Things quickly become complicated when a bounty is placed on Vision, forcing him and Thomas onto the run. As Vision tries to survive, he must also resist Ultron’s influence while uncovering the truth behind his young companion.
Bettany leads the cast alongside Spader, James D’Arcy, Diane Morgan and Ruaridh Mollica. With VisionQuest bringing together major threads from WandaVision and the wider Marvel story, the series could deliver a surprisingly emotional final chapter.
VisionQuest premieres on Disney+ October 14.
