Treasure Island is returning to the screen with a new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic 1883 adventure, bringing Jim Hawkins, Long John Silver, and the legendary search for Captain Flint’s treasure back to life with a fresh twist.
The new series follows young Jim Hawkins, played by Tom Sweet, as he sets sail aboard the Hispaniola alongside his mother, Bess Hawkins, portrayed by Hayley Atwell. Unlike Stevenson’s original story, where Jim makes the journey largely on his own, this version puts Bess directly into the adventure, giving the voyage another determined and resourceful player.
Their goal is more than simply finding buried treasure. Jim and Bess are searching for the freedom and financial security they desperately need, but their plans become complicated as the crew gets closer to Flint’s fortune and loyalties begin to fracture.
David Oyelowo takes on the iconic role of Long John Silver, presenting the legendary pirate as an ambitious and dangerous figure whose plans threaten to turn the expedition into a fight for survival. Tomer Capone also stars as Billy Bones, with Tristan Sturrock as Captain Smollett and Craige Els as Mr. Arrow.
The new trailer promises a mix of high-seas adventure, pirate intrigue, and family drama while giving one of literature’s most famous stories a modern perspective.
Treasure Island premieres on MGM+ on October 11 and streams on Paramount+ UK & Ireland from October 12.
