Johnny Depp is returning to the big screen with Day Drinker, a new horror thriller that puts the actor aboard a private yacht where an unusual guest may be hiding a deadly secret. Directed by Marc Webb, the filmmaker behind The Amazing Spider-Man films, 500 Days of Summer, and Gifted, the movie promises a mix of mystery, crime, and horror.
Depp plays a mysterious passenger who catches the attention of a yacht bartender, played by Madelyn Cline. What initially appears to be an ordinary encounter soon takes a darker turn as the pair become connected to a dangerous criminal figure portrayed by Oscar winner Penélope Cruz.
The official premise follows Cline’s bartender as she discovers that her enigmatic guest may have a taste for blood. As their connection deepens, the two become caught in a criminal web that reveals unexpected links between them. Exactly what Depp’s character is hiding remains one of the film’s biggest mysteries.
The screenplay comes from Zach Dean, whose previous credits include The Gorge and The Tomorrow War, while John Wick producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee are behind the project.
With Depp returning to a darker genre and Webb bringing his experience with both blockbuster filmmaking and character-driven stories, Day Drinker could offer an intriguing combination of supernatural mystery and crime thriller.
