Tom Ellis and Nick Gehlfuss are teaming up again for CIA season 2, a CBS drama that combines covert operations, international conspiracies, and an unlikely partnership between two very different federal agents.
The series follows FBI Special Agent Bill Goodman, played by Gehlfuss, a by-the-book investigator who is loaned to a secret CIA/FBI task force operating in New York. There he is paired with Colin Glass, a mysterious and unconventional CIA agent portrayed by Ellis. Together, the duo tackles covert missions involving international plots, terrorist cells, and geopolitical secrets.
At the center of CIA is the relationship between Goodman and Glass. Their contrasting personalities create plenty of tension, but the show also gives the characters room to influence each other. Goodman gradually begins picking up some of Glass’s more unconventional methods, creating moments of humor alongside the serious espionage storylines.
That chemistry appears to extend beyond the screen, with Ellis and Gehlfuss describing their real-life friendship as one reason their partnership developed naturally. Rather than relying entirely on a traditional love-hate dynamic, the series allows the two agents to become an effective team while constantly challenging each other.
The first season of CIA attracted 8.4 million multiplatform viewers within seven days, according to Nielsen, while improving its time-period viewership by 39%.
The series airs on CBS and streams on Paramount+ on October 5.
