Alan Ritchson is trading modern-day heroics for gritty 1970s revenge in “Motor City,” an atmospheric new action thriller.
Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, the film follows a working-class man who is framed by a ruthless gangster after falling for the mobster’s girlfriend. After spending years behind bars, he returns to Detroit with a single purpose: revenge.
But “Motor City” isn’t aiming to be a typical action movie. One of the film’s boldest creative choices is its minimal dialogue, relying instead on visuals, tension, and Ritchson’s physical presence to tell the story. According to the actor, the film balances explosive violence with emotional restraint, focusing on the internal rage simmering beneath the surface rather than constant outbursts.
Joining Ritchson is a powerhouse cast including Shailene Woodley, Pablo Schreiber, Ben Foster, and Ben McKenzie.
The trailer paints a grimy portrait of 1970s Detroit, filled with muscle cars, neon lights, mob violence, and quiet fury. Ritchson has described the film as “super-artistic” while still aiming for mainstream appeal — a combination that could make “Motor City” one of the year’s most unique action thrillers.
With its stripped-down storytelling and raw intensity, the film looks ready to deliver vengeance with style. The film is roaring into theaters on July 24.
