Saving General Yang is on everyone’s list of films to watch

The highly anticipated period war movie, Saving General Yang, opened in theaters on April 4. Despite facing competition from both domestic and international films, Saving General Yang received an extremely positive response from casual movie watchers and professionals alike. Fast-paced battle scenes are backed by carefully-crafted cinematography and choreography.

Fans eagerly snapped up tickets to advanced showings of Saving General Yang, which took place on April 2 in sixty movie theaters across twelve cities. Tickets for these showtimes sold out within two hours.

On Mtime.com, the movie’s ratings increased after its premiere, even reaching as high as 7.7, which is unheard of in recent years for a movie in this genre. The website also shows that many fans gave the film a five-star recommendation.

Saving General Yang centers around the legendary Yang clan, featuring Adam Cheng as General Yang. Ekin Cheng replaced Louis Koo, who unfortunately had to back out due to a leg injury, as the first son. General Yang’s seven sons must use their individual strengths and skills to engage in an epic battle against 3,000 warriors in order to save their father. Several of the sons meet their deaths as they sacrifice their own lives to save their father in the timeless tale of filial piety.

Director Wong Jing wrote, “With the most effective storytelling method and exquisite filming, Ronny Yu’s skills have advanced again.”

Ronny revealed that he plans to shoot a big-budget “spiritual sequel” of Saving General Yang. He is currently preparing a modern action film that is “similar to Ocean’s Eleven. It will also feature a group of handsome men, battling out their wits. We plan to go on various jaw-dropping overseas locations to shoot the movie. I really hope that the seven brothers will come together again to film it.”
