The Deputy

The Deputy

Small-town corruption gets a dangerous new twist in The Deputy, an upcoming crime thriller that puts a rookie cop at the center of a mystery where even the dead refuse to stay put.

Duke Nicholson stars as Toby Sawyer, a newly appointed deputy whose first major assignment comes from Chief Kreuger, played by William H. Macy. Toby is ordered to guard a dead body, but when the corpse mysteriously disappears, what should have been a routine night turns into a frantic investigation.

Determined to find the missing body and clear his name, Toby begins digging into the town’s history and uncovers decades of corruption, buried secrets and people willing to kill to keep the truth hidden. His superiors pressure him to stop asking questions, but Deputy Amanda Jackson, played by Tiffany Haddish, becomes his unlikely ally as the pair attempt to unravel the deadly conspiracy.

The cast also features Stephen Dorff, Devon Ross, Julia Fox and Billie Lourd, giving the film an impressive ensemble of recognizable faces.

The Deputy marks the feature directorial debut of Matt Sukkar, who works from a screenplay by Narcos co-creator Carlo Bernard. The story is based on Victor Gischler’s novel of the same name.

With a mix of crime, action and small-town mystery, The Deputy could give Nicholson a strong launch as a leading man. The film arrives in theaters and on digital platforms on September 25.
