Apple TV+ is preparing to send viewers back into the multiverse with Season 2 of Dark Matter. Based on the bestselling novel by Blake Crouch, the acclaimed sci-fi thriller returns with even higher stakes as alternate realities become more dangerous than ever.
The new season finds Jason Dessen, played by Golden Globe nominee Joel Edgerton, believing he has finally found peace. Together with Daniela (Jennifer Connelly) and their son Charlie (Oakes Fegley), the family settles into what appears to be a safe new reality known as World 26. But according to author Blake Crouch, that sense of security won’t last long. When unimaginable events shatter their fragile normality, the Dessens are once again forced to run for their lives.
As Jason becomes increasingly obsessed with the mysterious Box that allows travel between realities, Daniela’s growing paranoia threatens to tear the family apart. Meanwhile, Charlie desperately longs for the stability he has been denied across countless worlds.
Elsewhere, Amanda (Alice Braga) and Ryan (Jimmi Simpson) team up in a desperate attempt to find their way home, while Leighton (Dayo Okeniyi) continues his dangerous pursuit of creating what he believes is the perfect world. Standing in his way is Blair (Amanda Brugel), whose own mission could determine the fate of multiple realities.
Blending emotional family drama with mind-bending science fiction, Dark Matter has become one of Apple TV+’s standout genre series. If Season 1 explored the cost of infinite possibilities, Season 2 looks ready to examine the consequences of trying to control them. Fans can expect another thrilling ride through parallel worlds when Dark Matter returns on 28 August.
