The first trailer for The Odyssey has finally arrived and while the scale looks epic, not all reactions have been smooth sailing.
Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film adapts The Odyssey into a sweeping cinematic journey. Leading the cast is Matt Damon as Odysseus, alongside Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland as their son Telemachus. The star-studded lineup also includes Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.
The trailer teases an ambitious blend of myth and spectacle, offering glimpses of legendary dangers like the Cyclops, a deadly whirlpool, and Theron’s mysterious take on the nymph Calypso. Visually, it’s everything audiences expect from Nolan – intense, and cinematic.
However, early reactions have sparked debate. Some viewers have criticized the use of modern accents and dialogue, arguing it clashes with the ancient Greek setting. Others, though, see it as a bold stylistic choice that could make the story more accessible.
Love it or question it, one thing is clear – The Odyssey is already generating serious buzz ahead of its July 17 release in the U.S. and UK.
