The martial arts action comedy Son of a Punch, also known as Second Life, delivers a high-concept twist built around deception, revenge, and family ties.
Directed by Huo Suiqiang, the film pairs hard-hitting fight choreography with sharp character conflict.
The story begins decades earlier when Liang, imprisoned for killing a gang boss, gives birth behind bars. Her newborn son is sent into welfare while she serves her sentence. Thirty years later, Liang is released, stepping back into a world that has not forgotten her past. A criminal syndicate, still holding a grudge, sends a blind assassin named Ah Gui to pose as her long-lost son. His mission is simple: gain her trust and eliminate her.
The plan unravels when rival gangs enter the picture, forcing the fake mother-son duo into open combat. What follows is a mix of brutal brawls and reluctant bonding as they fight side by side, trading kicks, punches, and constant arguments. As chaos escalates, the assassin must confront his own loyalties.
The film stars Philip Ng, Yuen Qiu, and Yaxi Liu. Originally released in China on August 15, 2024, Son of a Punch is now streaming in the United States on the Hi-YAH! Channel, a platform dedicated to martial arts and Asian action cinema.
