Lionsgate has just revealed an official synopsis of John Wick Chapter 2:

Legendary hitman John Wick is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers. John Wick is set to arrive in theaters on February 10, 2017.

In his interview to IGN Keanu Reeves says that the action in John Wick 2 will take the franchise to the next level, claiming “If the first one was a black belt, then this one is third degree black belt.”

“For us it was just what is the next chapter? What is the continuation of this story? Opening up the world – the underground world. The world behind the world in terms of the assassins. Kind of evolving the action – if the first one was a black belt, then this one is third degree black belt. It’s such a fun project and a great character.”

Reeves says that the sequel finds John travelling to Rome, and also introduces new characters, played by Peter Stormare and his former Matrix co-star Laurence Fishburne.

“Laurence has this fantastic role as a character in the Underworld called The Bowery King” Reeves explained. “He plays such a great character in the piece and he brings of course humour, intelligence, charisma and fascination – he’s such an incredible actor and it was a pleasure to work with him again.

“And Peter Stormare – Stormare has more of a cameo in it but again he brings such fun and mystery and this mixture of groundedness and the surreal.”

John Wick Chapter 2 is set for release on February 10th, 2017.

A beat-up and bloodied Keanu Reeves was spotted filming some intense action scenes in NYC sprinted on foot around Manhattan’s Central Park.

According to this interview, martial arts star Gary Daniels stated towards the end that he will be filming a project with Keanu Reeves in New York next month. Also Ruby Rose have been announced as one of the new cast members.

John Wick 2 is currently filming in Brooklyn, New York.

Common, known by role of Elam Ferguson in Hell on Wheels Tv Show, have signed on to play the villain, when Ian McShane will also be back to reprise his role as Winston, the proprietor of The Continental, the mysterious hotel for assassins.

In the Collider’s interview Keanu Reeves revealed that there are essentially two characters at play — John, the guy, and John Wick, the legendary assassin — and for the sequel we can expect to see John Wick going to battle for John.

“I think we have a really good premise, and it’s an organic premise. It’s basically — to me there’s John Wick and then there’s John. You know, John is the married guy whose wife just died, and that five years of his life. Then there’s John Wick, who’s the mythical assassin. In this, John Wick’s past comes and infiltrates John’s life and John Wick, in a way, has to fight for John.”

According to Reeves, one of the major questions was trying to find a reason to keep the story going without rehashing the same emotional beats from the first film.

“‘Why tell the story? Why do we need to do this again? How do we do that without doing another dog?’ So we speak about John Wick, the next chapter, and what is that emotional hook? What is that? So I think we have a good idea of that.

And if you were a big fan of the Hotel Continental and the idiosyncratic world-building component of the first film, expect to see that interest paid off. Kolstad and Stahelski have paid attention to what the fans want and they’re looking to “open up” that world in the new chapter.

“Chad and the writer, Derek Kolstad, they’ve really listened to what people have enjoyed about the work and how they speak about it. So there’s definitely that influence of the other world, the Continental world, the look, the feel, what it is about the movie, what made people like it; is definitely being paid attention to and the world opens up in this chapter.”

Reeves revealed plans for a tentative start date at the end of this month, and said that he’s been training for months to ensure that the set-pieces in John Wick 2 not only match the level of the first film, but mix it up and bring something new and different to the action. Speaking about their approach to the fight scenes, Reeves said,

“We’re gonna do the same kind of thing in the sense of — what are the guiding principles? So it’s longer takes, know where you are on the space, who’s doing what, action with consequence. And then going to other levels of what the gun-Fu was, which was Jujitsu and Judo mixed with weapons and different styles of weapon training. So we’ve been opening up, I’ve been learning some other tools and different styles of that, and trying to develop some more techniques in terms of Judo and Jujitsu and bring those elements into the work. And then we have some other things that might be a little different…But it’s all organic. It’s not like all of a sudden John Wick has superpowers, it’s got to be connected to the character.”

John Wick 2 begins filming in the Fall and will be released through Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment. While the first film had a small production budget of $20 million, it raked in just under $80 million at the box office.

Collider confirming that Chad Stahelski will helm the film in his first solo debut with actor Keanu Reeves returning to star. Leitch is serving as executive producer with acclaimed fight choreographer J.J. Perry designing the action.

“We’re in development right now,” said Stahelski. “We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original.”

Although they didn’t reveal any details about the follow-up, Stahelski did mention, “If we could work with Keanu Reeves for 10 more movies you’d have a really cool career.”

They also touched on the challenges of making a sequel, revealing that the most difficult part of it “isn’t coming up with more action, but keeping the character relatable.”

“We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original. It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important.”

“You gotta go on a journey with the guy and have to like the guy,” Leitch said.

Lionsgate executive Jason Constantine has released a statement: “With such tremendous fan and critical support for John Wick, we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell,” Constantine said in a statement published by The Wrap. “We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around.”

John Wick took a simple, self-contained story and supercharged it with a heady cocktail of imagination and adrenaline, if John Wick 2 doesn’t stray too far from that formula, it should have no problem providing audiences with the same sort of rip-roaring good time.

Stay tuned for more.
