Creature Commandos, the first official project of the DC Universe, is moving full steam ahead with Season 2 now in production.
Originally created and written by James Gunn as a long-time passion project, the animated series was greenlit by Gunn and Peter Safran after their appointment as co-heads of DC Studios. While Gunn remains on board as executive producer, Season 2 shifts creative leadership to Dean Lorey (Harley Quinn), who takes over as writer and showrunner.
The series debuted on HBO Max on December 5, 2024, introducing a black-ops team made up of nonhuman inmates forced into dangerous missions for ARGUS after Amanda Waller’s crimes were exposed and Task Force X was dismantled.
The core lineup includes the Bride (Indira Varma), G.I. Robot and Weasel (Sean Gunn), Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), Nina Mazursky (Zoe Chao), and Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo). Supporting players like Frankenstein (David Harbour), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), and Circe (Anya Chalotra) further expand the DCU’s darker corners.
Season 2 will raise the stakes with the addition of new team members, including King Shark, Nosferata, and Khalis. With its mix of savage humor, monster-driven action, and DC lore, Creature Commandos continues to set the tone for the evolving DC Universe.
