Cowboy Ninja Viking film adaptation

After John Wick‘s success David Leitch and Chad Stahelski proved they have the chops to helm an action-packed big screen venture.

Variety reports that the pair of second unit directors were given the seal of approval by Chris Pratt who was tentative to commit to the film unless it had the right filmmakers. Universal plans to fast track production before Pratt’s busy schedule kicks into overdrive with Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven and James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy 2.

Cowboy Ninja Viking has no production or release date, but expect to see it in 2016 at the earliest.

Chris Pratt is officially signed on to play Cowboy Ninja Viking in the movie.

The story revolves around a counter-intelligence unit of Multiple Personality Disorder patients (that just sounds like they’re asking for trouble). Headed up by psychotherapist Dr. Sebastian Ghislain, these patients are transformed into agents known as Triplets (a reference to the three different personalities inside their minds). The unit eventually falls apart (surprise) and most of its members are turned into hired killers. Duncan, a Triplet who channels the skills of a Cowboy, Ninja, and Viking, is sent to find and stop the rogues.

Pratt’s no stranger to playing such multifaceted roles: The actor rose to prominence on NBC’s Parks And Recreation as Andy Dwyer, the notorious FBI Agent Rockstar Bootblack, and starred in Marvel’s enormously successful Guardians Of The Galaxy as a Dancer Space Guy Moron. That’s not to mention his roles in future projects, like his portrayal of Handsome Dinosaur Fighter Behaviorist in next year’s Jurassic World, or his reprisal of Sequel Man Space Guy Moron in 2017’s Guardians Of The Galaxy 2.

In 2010 it was announced that Disney had purchased the rights to make a film adaptation of the comic book but dropped the film in turnaround and Universal acquired the rights in 2012. Universal has yet to find a Director Dreamweaver Potential Scapegoat to helm the movie, and no production date has been announced.

Cowboy Ninja Viking is an Image Comics comic book debuted in 2009 and created by writer A.J. Lieberman and artist Riley Rossmo.
