Magic, revolution and breathtaking fantasy take center stage in Children of Blood and Bone, the highly anticipated adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling 2018 novel. Scheduled to arrive in theaters on January 15, 2027, the epic adventure brings the rich world of Orïsha to life with an all-star cast and a story filled with action, mythology and hope.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the filmmaker behind The Woman King, the film stars Thuso Mbedu as Zelie, a young woman gifted with the power to command the spirits of the dead. In the kingdom of Orïsha, magic has been brutally suppressed under the ruthless rule of King Saran, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. Determined to restore what was stolen from her people, Zelie embarks on a dangerous quest alongside her brother and two unlikely royal allies—the king’s own son and daughter—to reignite the magic and challenge a tyrannical empire.
The first trailer showcases sweeping fantasy landscapes, powerful magical battles and emotional family conflicts, promising a grand cinematic experience. Fans of epic fantasy will also recognize familiar faces, with Prince-Bythewood reuniting several stars from The Woman King, including Thuso Mbedu, Viola Davis and Lashana Lynch.
Blending African mythology with a coming-of-age adventure, Children of Blood and Bone has all the ingredients to become one of 2027’s biggest fantasy events and a potential new franchise for audiences worldwide.
