The Guillotines will hit cinemas on December 20th

The long awaited date for Andrew Lau’s wuxia martial arts movie The Guillotines has been announced, and it hits China and Hong Kong theatres December 20, 2012!

Even better news, the film has already been picked up for release in the U.S via the ever canny & shrewd Well Go U.S.A, for north Amercian distro. Todays a good day.

The action will go up against Wong Kar Wai’s The Grandmasters and Jackie Chan‘s Armour of God 3 Chinese Zodiac in an effort to gain a slice of the domestic market during the New Year period. Produced by Hong Kong filmmaker Peter Ho-Sun Chan, “The Guillotines” received investment to the sum of 15 million U.S. dollars.

The film tells of a covert group of assassins called The Guillotines that work for Emperor Qianlong, carrying out his secret missions. It stars a group of Asian up-and-comers including Huang Xiaoming, Ethan Juan, Shawn Yue, Li Yuchun and Boran Jing.

Synopsis: Arguably history’s first SWAT team, this covert assassination squad of the emperor was composed of young street thugs who had been killing for food and survival since they were kids. Trained to use the Flying Guillotines, the deadliest weapon ever invented, they competed with one another to be the best killer. Merciless and arrogant, they live life in the fast lane, until one day it was revealed they’ve been killing the wrong people for the wrong side. As they were ambushed by another team of killers, and the hunters became the hunted, they were forced to kill for their survival again or faced imminent annihilation.
