Tai chi-themed films will start with Tai Chi 0

Choreographed by Sammo Hung and directed by Stephen Fung, Tai Chi 0 confused me after watching the trailer, why it has so terrible music and so much wire-fu and CGI everywhere? For sure, Stephen Fung did not want to make just another classic and down-to-earth portrait of a Tai Chi legend.

New martial arts movie Tai Chi 0 focuses on the early years of Tai chi master Yang Luchan, the man who founded in the 19th century what has now become the most popular tai chi style in the world. In this martial arts movie, the young man begins his long journey to become a Tai Chi master, but he will have to defend his small village from invaders…

This is a big budget mainland project with such stars as Yuen Biao, Shu Qi and Tony Leung, but with a young Chinese actor playing the character of the Tai Chi hero, while Jet Li plays a key role in the film.

Huayi Brothers is planning to make Tai Chi trilogy (TAI CHI ZERO, TAI CHI HERO and TAI CHI SUMMIT) and it is understood that the writing of the second and third film has started.

Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao and Jet Li together on the sets! Is anyone absent from work today? Yes! Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen… give me Asian Expendables, LOL.

Tai Chi 0 has already been sold to North America, UK and France. It will be released in China in December 2012… or may be in 2013.

TAI CHI 0 is not the only tai chi-themed film in production right now. Keanu Reeves is shooting MAN OF TAI CHI with Tiger Chen and Karen Mok in Beijing right now, with choreography courtesy of Yuen Woo-ping.
