Seven Samurai remake in muay thai style

The Weinsteins are planning to remake Akira Kurosawa’s legendary classic martial arts movie Seven Samurai, using guns instead of swords.

The film looks to be about a small Thailand village that recruits seven top mercenaries from around the world to help fend off an attack. So, yeah, I guess somebody could call it a remake, but it is just another version of classic story, so true fans do not need to worry. Story tropes are so universal that they could be changed up to apply to any kind of genre. This is just another iteration. But question who they get to play the mercs?

Mann isn’t exactly known for epic films either. He directed The Tournament and couple of short films so this $60 million action flick based on a classic will definitely be a step up for him. I agree that Seven Samurai deserves to be remade after being in the basement for 57 years but this film has so much potential more potential.

I understand Weinsteins are very powerful and thai movies become more and more popular after Tony Jaa, but better stay with Matrix than put hands on classic masterpience and play on it with news. It would be nice if the Weinstein Brothers offered to put out Seven Samurai for theatrical release, but there is only rumours for todays.
