Once Upon A Time In Shanghai martial arts movie, directed by Wong Ching-Po and stars Philip Ng, Sammo Hung, Andy On and Chow Yun Fat, and Yuen Woo Ping as a fighting choreographer, is set for release on January 9, 2014.

Synopsis: In the early 20th century, labourers from all over the country were rushing to the flourishing city of Shanghai. Ma Yongzhen (Philip Ng), a youthful man from Shangdong, arrived at this prosperous city working as a dock labourer. He moves to Shanghai in the hope of becoming rich. But ends up using his kung fu skills to survive and against the evil Japanese.

Chow Yun Fat and Sammo Hung with support of Yuen Woo Ping in the new upcoming crime movie Once Upon A Time In Shanghai. Have know idea will it be connected somehow to Jet Li‘s Once Upon a time in China and martial arts hero Wong Fei-Hung, but definitely has already became one of the most anticipated movies.
Producer-writer-director Wong Jing, better known for Future X-Cops and Naked Weapon movies, is directing and Andrew Lau producing the film. Lau is known by A Man Called Hero and Infernal Affairs films.
The story based on the true life crime boss Du Yuesheng who built his crime empire through the 1920s and 30s in Shanghai and had close ties to Chiang Kai-shek.
It is not the first time when Chow Yun Fat tackling Du’s life. In the tv series The Bund, Chow Yun Fat also played around crime lord and this series helped catapult him to stardom.
I have not seen Chow in a good role for a long time, so to see big brothers together on the big screen is a nice chance, especially when Chow is almost 57 and Sammo is 60.
