Mortal Kombat Legacy season 2

Mortal Kombat Legacy second season has started production in Los Angeles and will debut worldwide in February 2013 exclusively on Machinima. Kevin Tancharoen returning to the director’s chair and Larnell Stovall as an action choreographer and will introduce new actors such as Mark Dacascos who plays Kung Lao, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung, Casper Van Dien replaced Matt Mullins as Johnny Cage, Harry Shum Jr. as Sub Zero, Brian Tee as Shaolin Monk Liu Kang, Michelle Lee as Mileena, Ian Anthony Dale returns as Scorpion.

Mortal Kombat Legacy became the most-viewed web series of 2011 with more than 60 million views to date. The second season will transport viewers to the actual Mortal Kombat tournament made famous by the games.

Machinima co-founder and CEO Allen DeBevoise had this to say about the new season.

“Machinima and our audience have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this series, and I’m thrilled to announce that Mortal Kombat: Legacy Season 2 will return to its original home on Machinima. We have become a destination for episodic narrative series thanks in part to the first season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy, and we look forward to breaking new ground with this much anticipated new season.”

Kevin Tancharoen is going to get his chance to bring the fighting video game Mortal Kombat franchise back to the big screen. He started walking around big WB bosses in 2010 with his 8 minute short titled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, which got viral online and included Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan.

Kombat geeks loved it and Warner Bros quickly greenlit a 10 part webisodes series for $2 million. Mortal Kombat: Legacy has been viewed by over 14 and a half million times and it’s convinced Warner Bros to go ahead with a big screen reboot of the fighting game franchise.

Tancharoen is going to direct next martial arts movie Mortal Kombat next year for a 2013 release after 16 years absence and it will go under the banner of New Line. It’s an extremely rare case of WB making a film in conjunction with their video game division, Warner Bros. owned the franchise since Midway Games bankruptcy in 2009, and this past April they released their own MK game, that sold over 3 million copies.

Rookie Oren Uziel and Tancharoen will puttheir heads together again after the 8 minute viral and now they get to work on a full-length movie that WB do actually want to see made. New Mortal Kombat movie with a budget of $100 million will bring a realistic take on the MK universe, which is precisely what direction his webisodes went in.

I only hope Michael Jai White, Darren Shahlavi and Matt Mullins will re-unite again for this big break to the big screen. Just imagine what a great chance for Michael Jai White to show all his amazing abilities and break into the big business, it will bring absolutely other kind of resourses to Never Back Down 3 and gives other talented martial artists like Larnell Stovall, Darren Shahlavi and Matt Mullins a great chance to shine.

Paul W.S. Anderson’s Mortal Kombat in 1995 grossed $122 million and was top of the box office for three weeks.

Personally I liked only a few episodes of Mortal Kombat Legacy, but it has got a strong potential to become the next martial arts epic movie though in absolutely new way of vision what we used to like.

Do we need tons of fantasy with flying fireballs again?
