Gravity-defying theatrics in Blood Letter

Here is the trailer for Vietnamese period action martial arts movie Blood Letter. This is an adaptation from a popular novel (Bức Huyết Thư by Bùi Anh Tấn). From a visual standpoint it looks the same like many other wu-xia films, but it is loaded with lots of lavish color.

I’m not overly familiar with Vietnamese movies, know only Johnny Nguyen, but this is really something new. I suppose fans of stylish martial arts movies like Hero, House of Flying Daggers will find it worths keeping an eye on because of gravity-defying theatrics, but I sure it will just another descent film.

Vietnamese-American director Victor Vu done ghost stories, thrillers, romantic comedies, a bit of action, a bit of drama. Now he is ready to try something new, but simply no denying that whatever his chosen genre on any given project, Vu is one of the most visually gifted directors working in Vietnam.

Can I call it viet-xia?
